Russian national security strategy until 2020: Main rival is the United States again in the next 12 years

The document describes the Russiaâ€™s significant role in the world, possible challenges and threats expected in the next 12 years and methods of defending from them, APA reports, citing the Russian â€œKommersantâ€ newspaper. According to the document Washingto will be main rival of Russia alias. Authors of the strategy call on Russia to avoid the armaments drive with the United States, but recommend not to reduce the nuclear warheads. The strategy is expected to be approved at the large meeting of the National Security Council on February 20.

The authors consider that rivalry for controlling the energy resources in the word will strengthen in a long-time prospect. They also determined the regions where confrontations expected to sharpen. â€œThe international policy will focus on the access to the energy sources of the world, including Middle East, Barents Sea, the Arctic Region, Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The struggle for the hydrocarbon resources can be developed to the military confrontation as well, which can result with violation of balance on the Russiaâ€™s borders with the allies and increasing of the nuclear countriesâ€. The authors of the document suppose that existing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, in the Middle East, some of the South Asian and African countries, as well as in Korean peninsula will have negative impact on the international situation in the next 12 years.

Russia relies on the post-soviet and far abroad support. According to the strategy Moscow must intensify its activity in G8, G20, Russia-India-China and Brazil-Russia-India-China political formats. Closer development of relations with CIS, Eurasian Economic Cooperation organization and Collective Security Treaty Organization was described as a priority of foreign policy.
