Astana hosts 24th meeting of Caspian states’ working groups

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. The 24th meeting of the Caspian states’ working groups on determination of the Caspian’s legal status has begun in Astana, APA reports. Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin said that most of the delegations’ agreeing to the model proposed by Kazakhstan gives hope that the issue on the Caspian’s status would be solved soon. He said one of the issues to be discussed is determination of fishing regime.
“We should accelerate coordination of five-party agreement on the protection, increase and efficient usage of biological resources of the Caspian Sea. The document will cover unique rules of fishing for all the littoral states,” he said.
Foreign Minister said the documents expected to be signed at the next summit of the littoral states would be discussed at the meeting. Assessing Iran’s proposal to establish Caspian States Economic Cooperation Organization Marat Tazhin said his country was ready to discuss the issue on the level of experts.
The delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov represents Azerbaijan at the meeting. The meeting will last for two days.
