Grigol Vashadze: â€œGeorgia-Azerbaijan relations are an example for strategic partnership and close neighbourhoodâ€

The first visit of Grigol Vashadze to Azerbaijan as Foreign Minister is an example for strategic partnership and close relations between the two countriesâ€, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed after the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, APA reports.
Mammadyarov noted that they had one-on-one meeting and with the participation of delegation.
â€œWe have discussed issues lying ahead, joint activity of our countries within the framework of GUAM, UN, OSCE, assessed situation in the region as a result of developments occurred in Georgia in August. I have provided information about settlement process of Nagorno Karabakh conflict,â€ he added. The minister underlined that they had touched upon economic issues as well. He stressed that trade turnover reached 700 million USD increasing by 86% between the two countries.
â€œIt occurred as a result of projects Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurumâ€, he said.
Mammadyarov noted that the meeting covered humanitarian issues, as well as celebration of mutual cultural days, situation of Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijani schools in Georgia, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
Vashadze stated that Russiaâ€™s occupation in August proved fragility of peace in the region, dependence of fraternal countries on each other, need for expansion of cooperation to prevent such kind of tragedies in future. Vashadze added that the meeting envisaged security, economic and humanitarian issues and understanding between the sides on allâ€“round cooperation.
