EU encourages Azerbaijan and Armenia for solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict

She emphasized the European Neighborhood Policy as one of the ways of this cooperation. â€œThe European Union attaches great importance to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Mr. Solana discussed the Nagorno Karabakh issue and problem of settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan with the Armenian president during his visit to Brussels. EU supports the presidentsâ€™ meeting in Moscow on November 2. This meeting is a good impetus for solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. We support the OSCE Minsk Group efforts and Russian initiatives. We will continue further to encourage Azerbaijan and Armenia toward solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflictâ€. Regarding the deployment of European peacekeeping forces in the zone of conflict, Cristina Gallach said it was early to speak about it. â€œIf such step is useful and necessary, the European Union will be ready to make its contribution to this issueâ€. The Javier Solanaâ€™s spokeswoman said freedom of speech was important for all Caucasus, including Azerbaijan. â€œThe situation in the region regarding to this issue is not heartwarming. Freedom of speech is one of the important factors in the relations with the European Union. EU concerns about the arrest of three journalists in Azerbaijanâ€.
