Elman Abdullayev: â€˜Azerbaijan’s presidency in the UN Security Council was realized successfullyâ€™

â€˜Presidency in the Security Council was big experience for us. We think that we managed all the obligations. During the time of presidency, in general, efforts of the diplomacy have been directed to extension of national interests of our state at a global levelâ€™, added Abdullayev.

He noted that Azerbaijani president chaired the first meeting. The head of the sate3 delivered speech on threats of terror acts towards the international peace and security.

â€˜During the Azerbaijani presidency, the Council approved 3 resolutions. The resolution were connected with military confrontation between Sudan and the South Sudan, increase of mandate of UN security forces in the South Sudan and military coup in Guinea-Bissau. At the same time, 7 statements were made for the media, 13 open and 16 closed meetings were heldâ€™, said Abdullayev.

â€˜On May 18-24, permanent representatives of UN Security Council member-states visited the Western Africa, on May 26-27 an event titled â€˜The Middle East and Northern Africa: new political realitiesâ€™ was held in Istanbul. On May 30, permanent representation of Azerbaijan under the UN held an event. Besides, an unofficial meeting was held in relation to peaceful settlement of arguments. Deputy Azerbaijani FM Araz Ezimov attended the meeting as one of the main lecturers.
