Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. French ambassador to Azerbaijan Gabriel Keller responded to the statements of Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic in his interviews to APA on December 27 and January 23. In his statement of response presented to APA, the ambassador said: “”If the law, which was adopted by the French Senate by voting on January 23, hurts some Turkish or Azerbaijani citizens, the French government agencies regret for it. It doesn’t reflect the soul of the law adopted by voting. The memory issues are always painful topics and they cause hot debates in the world. France also outlived this heavy experience and recognized its responsibility in the slavery, in participation in the massive deportation of French Jews during the World War II, and even in the colonial system”.

The ambassador noted that France appreciates its relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan: “France has worked very much for giving new impetus to these relations”.

The diplomat underlined that his country intended to continue mediation in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “France will further continue to play a constructive and completely neutral role in the Minsk Group for the achievement of fair and sustainable peace agreement based on the principles of international law”

Keller also commented on the statements addressed by the Turkish ambassador to the members of the French parliament: “The statements addressed to the French parliamentarians are slanderous and I consider that it doesn’t become the representative of a big country like Turkey to sound these words. Finally I would like to note that the ambassador’s statements about the risk of breach of peace in France offend the Turkish community of France, who were fully integrated into our national community”.
