Mevlut Chavushoglu: “France adopts draft law against freedom of thoughts, but nobody puts pressure upon this country”

According to APA’s European bureau, Chavushoglu said that the draft law approved by the French Parliament was discussed in the Senate’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs and it was decided that this draft law was contradictory to the Constitution: “Unfortunately freedom of expression is being limited in the center of Europe. This is absolutely contradictory to the fundamental principles as the legal state, human rights and democracy. If Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia and Russia present draft law on denial of genocide to their national parliaments it is difficult even to picture which pressures will be put upon them. They demanded Turkey to remove article 301 of the Criminal Code and said that it was contradictory to democracy. Turkey will remove this article. France approves a draft law, which is unconstitutional, undemocratic and against the freedom of thoughts, but no pressure is put upon France. Unfortunately the Council of Europe and European Union seem to accept this condition. France is a large country and nobody against it. Double standards show themselves in this situation. As Chairman of the PACE, I avoided to make a statement on it, because then they will accept it as a statement made by the Turkish Chairman of PACE. I hope that the PACE will declare its position that will be against the approval of this law”.
