Samad Seyidov: The hearings that will be held at the PACE Committee on Human Rights do not concern only Azerbaijan

Baku. Parvin Abbasov â€“ APA. â€œThe Committee on Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will hold hearings on human rights and political prisoners on January 16. The hearings do not concern only Azerbaijan,â€ head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Samad Seyidov told journalists, APA reports.

Samad Seyidov said the Azerbaijani side sent a letter to PACE leadership regarding the rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan Christoph StrÃ¤sser.

â€œPACE leadership knows that Azerbaijan is ready for constructive cooperation. The report has already been renamed. It means that the problem of political prisoners should be investigated not only in Azerbaijan, but also in other countries of PACE. The attempts to study it only in Azerbaijan are unsuccessful. We are ready to address the issue of human rights, this is in our interests. But we have opposed and will further oppose the attempts to make human rights an instrument to exert pressure on Azerbaijan. No one can turn human rights into bargaining, or instrument of pressure,â€ he said.
