Azerbaijani analysts and politicians about US House decision – OPINION POLL
Guluzadeh didn’t rule out approval of the decision at the House of Representatives as well. “The House of Representatives is led by anti-Turk person, who doesn’t need in truth and is funded by the Armenians. Obama also said Yes to so-called genocide in 2007â€. Guluzadeh said the decision would prevent ratification of the Turkish-Armenian protocols at the Turkish parliament.
But political analyst Rasim Musabeyov thinks that the resolution will not be passed at the House of Representatives and it will be excluded from the agenda: “There are two purposes of the committee to pass the resolution. First, there are some wishes of US from Turkey, and these wishes aren’t connected with Armenia. Turkey hesitates in some issues, doesn’t answer US. It is connected with Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq issues, setting up systems against rocket in Turkish territory. That is why such discussions give opportunity to achieve some wishes from Turkey instead of the pressure. On the other hand there are pro-Armenian congressmen at the Congress who must demonstrate that they were diligent in the issue. We speak about congressmen who take money from Armenians. But probably, it will not continueâ€.
To Musabeyov, Ankara demonstrates that it will not joke and if the decision against Turkey passes, it will negatively influence on both Turkey-Armenia relations, and US-Turkey relations.
Political analyst Ilgar Mammadov also criticized the resolution. To him, this resolution can’t be just: “Politicians can’t make decision about history. It is not the business of politicians and behind such result stand factors against justice, history, truth. That is why Azerbaijan must denounce this resolution.
It does not mean that it is all over and the resolution must be put to the discussion of the Congress. The Congress leadership will decide it. But this decision should be prevented. If the U.S. Congress passes the decision, Azerbaijan will lose its confidence in the Euro-Atlantic values.
Chairman of Musavat Party Isa Gambar said the decision of the committee is a unilateral approach. He considers that historians, not politicians must make decision about history.
“History is a complex science and specialists must deal with it. The Historians should investigate what happened in the World War 1. The Turkish government has opened its archives for scientists and called on the other interested parties to investigate the archives together. Under the present circumstances I think the passage of the resolution is wrong both from scientific and political aspects,†he said.
Isa Gambar considers that the passage of the resolution will have negative influence on the US-Turkey and US-Azerbaijan relations.
“I believe that this wrong tendency will be prevented,†he said.
Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Lala Shovkat does not believe that the Congress will pass the resolution.
“But the Azerbaijani parliament, the head of state and Azerbaijani people should support Turkey and express our remarks. This is very important. We do not have a closer ally than Turkey. I do not think US-Turkey relations will be damaged. Turkey is a strong state and the US can not solve the problems in the Middle East without Turkey. Therefore I think the Congress will not pass the resolution,†she said.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu called the resolution demagogy on the international level.
“If the historical events are assessed, then we should regard the clearing policy of the Americans against the hindus and other events as genocide,†he said.
He says there was no international law at the time when the Armenian genocide is claimed to happen, therefore even if the genocide happened, this claim has no legal force.
“Actually, it serves to violate the international relations. If this resolution passes in the Congress, peace in the South Caucasus can not be discussed. There will be problems between the US and the Turkish world,†he said.
Sardar Jalaloglu considers that the Azerbaijani government should recall its U.S. ambassador.
