Washington. Isabel Levine â€“ APA. The US House Foreign Affairs Committee voted narrowly today to condemn as â€œgenocideâ€ the mass killings of Armenians early in the last century.

According to APAâ€™s Washington correspondent, the vote on the resolution, a perennial point of friction addressing a dark, century-old chapter of Turkish history, was 23 to 22.

Suat Kiniklioglu, a Turkish Member of Parliament in Washington who met with the US lawmakers earlier during the hearing, told APAâ€™s Washington correspondent what Congress did today, it it the step back in terms of the Turkish-US relations. According to him, this decision disappointed the people of Turkey.
