Peter Semneby: â€œAzerbaijan has knowledge about Iran which EU doesnâ€™t haveâ€

According to APA, Semneby told journalists that they discussed Azerbaijan-EU relations, solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict, energy and issues related to Iran. He said they understood that the developments in Iran had a strong effect on Azerbaijan. â€œBesides that, Azerbaijan has knowledge and information about Iran which EU doesnâ€™t have. Therefore it is important for us to discuss the Iranian issue with Azerbaijanâ€.

Touching upon the Azerbaijan-EU relations, Peter Semneby said Lisbon treaty created opportunity for both EU and Azerbaijan to establish new relationship. â€œEastern Partnership Program was launched for determination of frame of our relationship with Azerbaijan and other South Caucasian countries, as well as Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. In the next phase, we will establish associative relations and this is long and very important process covering all spheres of our relationsâ€.

Answering the APAâ€™s question about the schedule of association talks, Semneby said he couldnâ€™t give exact date, but the mandate of negotiations was ready.

Semneby will meet with the representatives of the political parties on February 25.
