According to the organizers of the conference, since the fall of the Soviet Union, the United States has had significant strategic, economic, and energy interests in the South Caucasus. The region’s strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Central Asia makes it of vital importance for US national security interests, including energy security. Given the priority of energy security in the U.S. and in Europe, and considering the ongoing conflicts in the South Caucasus, it will be an appropriate time to discuss U.S. interests and priorities in this region.
The second conference “Energy and US Policy: Caucasus and Beyond†will be hold at the Princeton University on February 23 as well with the participation of outstanding scholars, experts on the region and former officials.
According to the organizers, this conference is part of Princeton’s Russian and Eurasian Studies
lecture series, "The Caucasus: Zones of Contestation," organized by Michael A. Reynolds, Assistant Professor in Near Eastern Studies.
