According to APA, Chief of the Azerbaijan Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev said the event aimed to deepen humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and he hoped that the forum would give impetus to new projects. He reminded that 20th anniversary of January 20 events was commemorated few days ago and said the people, who protested the violation of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, were cracked down in those events. “Why Gorbachov didn’t send troops to Armenia when Armenians committed cruelties against Azerbaijanis and expelled them from their homeland? Unfortunately in that time the central press was keeping silence and sometimes supporting the violation of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan”.

Mehdiyev said humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia was developing successfully and there was great attention to the Russian language in Azerbaijan and more than 16 000 young people were educating in Russian. He said publication of works of Pushkin, Lermontov, Esenin and Bulgakov in Azerbaijani with 1.5 million circulation proved that there was great interest to the Russian culture in Azerbaijan.

Ramiz Mehdiyev said that Azerbaijani-Russian relations had deep historic roots and the relations were developing in a high level. Mehdiyev said positive development was observed in the relations of both countries in all spheres and important steps were taken for the strengthening of cooperation. He emphasized important significance of the forum and welcomed the participation of a high-level Russian delegation. He said the event would contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.

Special Representative of the Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvidkoy said the goal of this forum was establishing joint “brain” of the intellectuals of both nations. “We aim that the forum contributes to the development of existed historic-cultural relations between the two nations. Our people should better know and understand each other”.
