Türkiye sells Russian-made S-400 air defense systems to one of the Gulf countries, APA reports, citing the Hürriyet newspaper.
According to the publication, the deal is expected to be finalized and officially announced today.
According to sources, the S-400 systems will be sent either to the United Arab Emirates or Qatar.
The article notes that U.S. President Donald Trump's recent statements regarding the lifting of the CAATSA sanctions imposed on Türkiye have brought the issue of the S-400 systems back into the spotlight. It recalls that the sanctions were imposed after Ankara purchased the S-400 systems from Russia.
According to Hürriyet, there has long been no clear information on whether the S-400 systems had been put into operation or kept in storage. The publication claims that, according to information it obtained, the systems have been sold to a third country, and the final technical details have already been agreed upon.
The newspaper writes that following the Iran-Israel confrontation, the Gulf countries began looking for alternative air defense systems to strengthen their air defense capabilities. According to the publication's assessment, by selling the S-400 systems, Türkiye could both get rid of the CAATSA sanctions and generate revenue from the sale.
