Moscow. Roman Agayev – APA. A commemorative event on the anniversary of January 20 tragedy was held in Azerbaijani embassy in Russia. APA’s Moscow correspondent reports that the participants first laid wreath before the memorial in honor of the January 20 martyrs. Making a keynote speech at the event ambassador Polad Bulbuloglu said the similar tragedy had not happened in the life of any nation. Chairman of Azerbaijani Cultural Society “Ojag” Tofig Malikli, Russian journalist, who witnessed the January 20 tragedy Ludmila Lavrova, professor Gennadi Melkov expressed their views on the January happenings.
Gennadi Melkov said the USSR leadership was responsible for the January 20 tragedy.
“Gorbachev must be in prison now, not in the Gorbachev Foundation,” he said.
Representatives of Azerbaijani and Russian public, Azerbaijani Diaspora attended the event. The documentary film about the January 20 tragedy was demonstrated at the end of the event.

An event on the January 20 tragedy was held in “Varlig” culture center on the initiative of Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia. APA’s Georgia bureau reports that prior to the event, the participants laid flowers before the bust of Heydar Aliyev in Tbilisi. Following this, an event was held with participation of Georgian and Azerbaijani intellectuals. Azerbaijani ambassador to Georgia Namig Aliyev, journalist Emin Mahmudov, editor of Gurcustan newspaper Suleyman Suleymanov, poetess Shovkat Daglargizi shared their views on the tragedy. Similar events were held in Gardabani and Sagarejo regions of Georgia with the participation of Azerbaijani and Georgian intellectuals, government representatives.
