Azerbaijani embassies hold commemorative events on January 20 tragedy

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani embassy in Romania held a commemorative event on the 20th anniversary of the bloody January tragedy, APA reports. The delegation of Azerbaijani businessmen visiting Romania to attend Romania-Azerbaijan Business Forum, the employees of the Romanian representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and SOCAR’s representation in Romania, chairman of Romania-Azerbaijan Friendship Society and members of the management board, members of Azerbaijan-Romania Culture and Youth Association and Romania-Azerbaijan Industry and Commerce Chamber, the Azerbaijanis living and studying in Romania, representatives of the nongovernmental organizations experienced in human rights and various spheres and media representatives attended the event. Prior to the event, the participants got acquainted with the photos depicting the January 20 tragedy. The January 20 martyrs were commemorated in a minute silence. Making a keynote speech at the event Azerbaijani ambassador to Romania Eldar Hasanov spoke about the savage act committed against the Azerbaijani people by the leadership of Soviet Union Communist Party, USSR armed forces, communist regime on January 20, 1990. He said the civilians demanding their constitutional rights, struggling for their freedom, independence and territorial integrity were shot down. The participants mentioned the savageries committed by the Soviet troops during the January 20 tragedy said the heroes, who died for the national freedom, will always be commemorated by the people. Following this, the participants watched the documentary film “The way leading to freedom”. The embassy sent press release about the causes and consequences of the January 20 tragedy to all the embassies and representations of international organizations in Romania, Romanian ministries, state bodies and nongovernmental organizations. Articles about January 20 tragedy were published in Romanian press.

January 20 was also commemorated by Azerbaijani embassy in Iran. APA reports quoting ISNA that head of Iran-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group, MP Seyyid Kazim Mousavi, representative of the people of Erdebil in the parliament, other parliamentarians and representatives of Iranian Foreign Ministry attended the event. MP Seyyid Kazim Mousavi said January 20 tragedy was of the most terrible event of the history and shared the grief of the Azerbaijanis. The participants prayed for the martyrs of January 20.
