The spokesman for Turkish Foreign Ministry Burak Ozugergin said the phone conversation had been initiated by the Armenian side, Nalbandian phoned Ahmet Davutoglu who is visiting Saudi Arabia together with Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkish Minister expressed his concern over the decision of Armenian Constitutional Court. He noted that the court decision contained inadmissible terms for Turkey. Davutoglu said Turkey was devoted to the spirit and text of the protocols and underlined that they expected similar position from the Armenian government. The minister said soon after the protocols were signed in Zurich, they informed the public, sent the documents to the parliament, he mentioned that the Armenian side lagged behind in that issue and added the reports that Turkey delayed the process were groundless. Ahmet Davutoglu said they expected the Armenian government to clarify the issue and demonstrate the necessary political will.

According to the decision of Armenian Constitutional Court, the protocols can not be commented on contradicting to the preamble of Armenian Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Armenian Declaration of Independence contains territorial claims against Turkey and calls this country’s eastern provinces “Western Armenia”. Moreover, the declaration says that the international recognition of “Armenian genocide” is the duty of Armenian state.
