Polad Bulbuloglu: “Peaceful people became victims of political gambles during the January 20 eventsâ€

Moscow. Roman Aghayev – APA. January 20 events were commemorated at the debating-society of the School of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University, APA Moscow bureau reports. Addressing the ceremony, Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said the contingent of Soviet forces was deployed in Baku at night from January 19 to 20, 1990 to crack down the national movement. He said the January 20 tragedy, which was a start of USSR collapse, entered the history of Azerbaijan as “Black Januaryâ€. “The state kills itself when it turns gun on own people. It happened a year later. More than 150 peaceful residents were killed in a night in Azerbaijan. Those people had no relation to the politics. The peaceful people became victims of political gambles and wrong policy of the country’s political leadership toward the peopleâ€. Other speakers also shared their thoughts about the January 20 events.
