Vladimir Dorokhin: â€œRussia unconditionally recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijanâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. Russian newly-appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin held his first press conference in Baku, APA reports. He said Russia saw Azerbaijan as its strategic partner and relations between his country and Azerbaijan based on following principles:

- Unconditional recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan;
- Respecting the independent foreign policy course contributed to the regional peace and stability;
- Establishing relations on the basis of balance of the interests and mutual usefulness.

The diplomat said his mission was to strengthen relations between Russia and Azerbaijan and to solve the questions remained open. He said the economic relations were in high level and trade turnover between the two countries reached $2.4 billion in 2008.

Dorokhin said there was big attention to the Russian language in Azerbaijan and it could be an example for the countries where the native-language education was restricted. The ambassador said Russia supported the fair, peaceful and soonest solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law and in the context of stability in the Caucasus. Dorokhin said the opening of Turkey-Armenia borders was an affair of those countries. â€œWe support all processes contributed to the stabilityâ€, said the ambassador. He said he knew that Azerbaijan concerned over this issue.
