Russian analyst: â€œRussia and Turkeyâ€™s efforts for fair solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict can be basis for new bilateral relationsâ€

Roman Aghayev â€“ APA. â€œThe solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict can provide long-term peace in the Caucasusâ€, Director of Post-Soviet Research Center, political scientist Alexey Vlasov told APA Moscow bureau. He said he believed that the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict would be on the agenda of the meeting between Azerbaijani and Russian presidents in Moscow. â€œWe witness the new realities of world policy now. These realities cover the wide specter of geo-economic and geopolitical problems, particularly the problems arisen from the new regional security strategy. The global financial and economic crises, as well as struggle for the resources in the post-soviet space made freezing of conflicts unavoidable. At the same time, there is another scenario for open strategies and mutual activity and searching of solutions to the disputed issues by force.

The Russian analyst said the probability of the realization of the second scenario appeared after the August happenings in South Ossetia last year.
â€œPreparation of new and fairer game rules plays the main role in the expansion of the atmosphere of mutual confidence. Russia-Turkey relations will play a more significant role in establishing fairer rules of the international relations. The efforts of Russia and Turkey on fair solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict may lay the foundation of the new bilateral relations. Ankara-initiated Caucasus Cooperation and Stability Platform, as well as Moscow Declaration is an important contribution to a number of regional problems emerging from freezing of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Caucasus strategy of Turkey is a more pragmatic and wise strategy. This strategy may be a universal foundation for the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict with participation of only regional countries,â€ he said.

Vlasov noted that it is high time to solve the Nagorno Karabakh problem, which plays the main role in the security of the South Caucasus.
â€œSouth Caucasusâ€™ becoming the region of confidence and security will depend on the success and failure of Russia-Turkey initiatives,â€ he said.
