Russian Presidentâ€™s press service: â€œWe continue our support to finding of compromise agreement between Azerbaijan and Armeniaâ€

The presidents held the number of meetings in 2008within this dialogue and the parts signed Declaration of Friendship and Strategic Partnership during the Russian presidentâ€™s visit to Azerbaijan on July 3-4, 2008. â€œDynamic development of economic and trade cooperation is a priority. The trade turnover has been increased threefold since 2005 and reached $2.4 billion in 2008. Russian leading companies like LUKoil, KamAZ, GAZ, RJD, ROSNO, Metrovagonmash, Kirovsky Zavod are operating in Azerbaijan. The issues of new prospects of cooperation, energy, particularly extension of sale markets for Azerbaijani natural gas are on agendaâ€.

The Kremlin officials said one of the main compositions of the bilateral relations was cultural-humanitarian relationship. â€œThere are Russian sectors in the secondary and high schools of Azerbaijan and education of Russian language is developed in the country. The cooperation in the education sphere is also extending. The branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Russian Culture and Information Center were opened in Baku in February-March, 2009. Russian and Azerbaijani ministries of culture signed the cooperation program for holding Russian Days in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Days in Russia in 2009-2010â€.

The Russian presidentâ€™s press service said usually the discussion of topical international and regional problems were focused in the high-level negotiations. â€œFrom this view, one of the main subjects is the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The parts confirmed their loyalty to the political settlement of the conflict in Declaration signed by the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 2, 2008 in Moscow. As one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Russia continues its support to finding of compromise agreement between the two partsâ€.

Medvedev and Aliyev will mention the issues of Caspian legal status and development of multilateral cooperation in the Caspian as well.
