Deniz Baykal: “The main problem for us is not the genocide claims, but the occupation of Azerbaijani lands”

Why? Why don’t they make serious announcements understandable for everyone? Why are they at the back of uncertainty? Where is President Abdullah Gul? Why are they silent? You can go to Armenia to watch football, but why can’t you speak about this subject?”- said leader of Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deniz Baykal in his address to the party’s faction at the Parliament, APA reports. Baykal reminded about the Armenia’s genocide accusations against Turkey, oppressing it with the achieving of genocide recognition by some world parliaments and non-recognition of Turkey’s borders. He said Turkey didn’t need to complex it. “It is possible to surrender to this slanderous campaign”. He said he didn’t take the genocide claims into the serious consideration and thought that Turkey had not to force itself to take measures on this issue. “The main problem is not that. The problems between us and Turkey can find its solution in future partly. Today the important and hot problem is the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia. We are not alone in speaking about that. Resolutions of UN Security Council, General Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Organization of the Islamic Conference are also speaking about the Armenia’s invasion. We have no right to neglect it. Armenia must be withdrawn from those elands”. Deniz Baykal said Turkey closed the borders just in a protest against the Armenia’s invasion in Azerbaijan. “The reason was not in our hostility against the Armenians, but was a fact of occupation, violation of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty. No one told us that it was wrong step. Now they are calling us to open the borders. What will happen, if we open the borders? The invasion will be legitimized. Why this government allows to violate the rights of Azerbaijan and to use Turkey for this goal?”

Baykal said indeed the closing of borders showed its impact leaving Armenia face-to-face with depopulation and weak economy. “We have to tell Armenia resolutely to leave the occupation and to withdraw from Azerbaijan. It doesn’t become Turkey to surrender”.

Baykal said Azerbaijan was fraternal country and at the same time, very important partner for Turkey for its geopolitical position and energy resources.
