Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. The unveiling ceremony of the memorial plaque on the building, where the first diplomatic mission of Ukrainian People’s Republic to Azerbaijan in 1919-1920 located, was held with participation of Azerbaijani Ukrainian Presidents, APA reports. Addressing the ceremony Viktor Yushchenko expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President, Baku Mayor’s Office and those who initiated to perpetuate the activity of the first diplomatic mission of Ukraine in Azerbaijan.
The President told journalists that after ancient Ukrainian territories were united in Ukrainian People’s Republic on January 22, 1919, on February 8 head of Ukrainian diplomatic mission Ivan Kraskovski presented his credentials to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Fatali Khan Khoyski.
“It shows that when the first independent states of the 20th century Ukraine and Azerbaijan were formed, diplomatic relations were established between them. The two nations and two states were attentively following each other’s struggle for freedom at that time and supported each other,” he said.
Viktor Yushchenko stated that Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations were not only on the level of governments, but also between the societies.
