Milli Majlis Chairman meets with PACE co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva, Elbrus Seyfullayev–APA. Chairman of Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov met with co-rapporteurs of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and Eugenia Zhivkova. Asadov said Azerbaijan gave great importance to its cooperation with the Council of Europe, Press Service of the Parliament told APA. The speaker said problem of political prisoners was solved in Azerbaijan and no one was arrested for his faith. “Unfortunately the Council does not pay attention to human rights violations in Armenia and other neighboring countries, but reappoints rapporteur on Azerbaijan”.

In their turn, the co-rapporteurs said a number of changes took place in the country’s socio-political life and they intended to learn the situation and to hold discussions over the number of issues.
Azerbaijani delegation to PACE also met with Herkel and Zhivkova. Chairman of the delegation Samad Seyidov informed the co-rapporteurs about the work done in the field of protection of human rights and fulfillment of commitments before the Council of Europe in the period passed since the last report.

Herkel said the last report was prepared two years ago and they aimed in this visit to prepare the next report.

PACE co-rarporteurs arrived in Azerbaijan on April 8. They were received by the President. They have met with the representatives of the political parties and Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council Nushiravan Maharramli.

The co-rarporteurs will end their visit on April 11.
