"The new trade routes supported by China are creating new economic opportunities for the Middle Corridor countries (CCA), including Azerbaijan," said Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to Jihad Azour, these routes will play an important role in strengthening regional trade ties and economic integration: “These projects require public investment and, in some cases, may affect public debt. Therefore, countries must strengthen their economic fundamentals and carefully manage both the asset and liability sides of long-term projects. It is essential to maintain debt at a sustainable level.”
The IMF official also noted that reforms and improvements in the business environment are necessary to ensure economic growth and resilience in the countries of the region. According to him, these steps will support countries like Kyrgyzstan in becoming trade and logistics hubs.
