Azerbaijan posts 7% rise in foreign trade

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with 92 nations during January totaled $1.2 billion, including exports of $681.5 million (56.8%) and imports of $518.8 million (43.2%), said the State Statistical Committee.
The trade surplus was $162.7 million.
As against January 2008, foreign trade turnover rose by 6.9%, imports went up by 4.5% and exports increased by 8.9%.
Azerbaijan carried out 48.4% of the trade with the European Union, 16.7% with the CIS countries and 34.9% with other countries.
The country did 63.7% of the trade with Europe, 24.4% with Asia, 11.7% with Americas, 0.1% with Africa and 0.1% with Oceania.
The country’s main trade partners in imports and exports (80.7%) included Italy, the United States, Russia, France, Germany, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan (China), Georgia and China.
