Azeri banks post total capital growth at 43%

Baku. Vahab Rzayev â€“ APA-Economics. As of February 1, the total equity capital of Azerbaijan-based banks stood at AZN 1 517.2 million, up 43% or AZN 456.1 million on last year.
The National Bank of Azerbaijan said the total capital grew by 1.7% or AZN 25.5 million during January, interestingly against the background of the world financial crisis.
Total capital is comprised of the authorized capital and undistributed profit.
As at January 1, the total capital accounted for 14.5% of liabilities of the banks, compared to 15% a year ago.
