Azerbaijan gets a 75% rise in VAT

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov â€“ APA-Economics. With more than 100 taxpayers using e-statement submission system, more than 850 000 e-statements were submitted to Azerbaijanâ€™s Ministry of Taxes in 2008.
The Minister of Taxes, Fazil Mammadov, said the country launched Value Added tax (VAT) deposit account system in 2008.
â€œDespite attempts by several CIS countries to improve VAT administration, Azerbaijan was the only to accomplish. As a result, VAT receipt increased by 75% last year,â€ he added.
According to him, computer terminals were deployed in 15 regions over the past two years to reach taxpayers and about 20 000 taxpayers used the terminals in 2008.
