Money base expanded 50% in Azerbaijan last year

Baku. Vahab Rzayev â€“ APA-Economics. As of January 1, the monetary base stood at AZN 4 781.3 million, up 48.5% on a year ago, said the National Bank of Azerbaijan,.
The central bank said the money base increase was AZN 1 560.5 million in 2008. The average monthly growth in money base was AZN 130.04 million this year while the growth rate was AZN 568.8 million in December.
The monetary base or money base comprises only currency (banknotes and coins) and commercial banksâ€™ reserves with the central bank. As such, it is a narrow definition of money supply, consisting of only the most liquid forms of money.
