Azerbaijan posts $40.5 billion trade surplus

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with 1340 nations during 2008 totaled $54.9 billion, including exports of $47.7 billion (87%) and imports of $7.2 billion (13%), said the State Statistical Committee.
The trade surplus was $40.5 billion.
As against 2007, foreign trade turnover rose 4.7 times, imports rose 25.4% and exports increased by 7.9-fold.
Azerbaijan carried out 52.8% of the trade with the European Union, 7.2% with the CIS countries and 40% with other countries.
The country did 59.5% of the trade with Europe, 25.3% with Asia, 14.9% with Americas, 0.5% with Africa and 0.02% with Oceania.
The country’s main trade partners in imports and exports (80.8%) included Italy, the United States, Israel, India, France, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Chine.
