Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of the Committee, said at the meeting that last year was a successful period in terms of several achievements, including the opening of a Central Customs Hospital, logistics capacity improvement and the introduction of the single window system for registration.
Safar Mehdiyev, first deputy chairman of the SCC, reported that the Committee collected AZN 1 110.4 million as customs tax and duty on imports and exports and fulfilled the budget prediction at 100.03% last year, up AZN 338.3 million or 43.3% on a year ago.
He cited that structure of the transfers to the state budget as saying VAT accounted for AZN 775.23 million (44.9% year-on-year rise), customs duties AZN 238.65 million( 48.9%), excise tax AZN 91.15 million (26%) and road tax AZN 5.35 million (23.8).
“The calculations show that the amount of customs duties and taxes is growing apace from year to year not because of the growth of imports, but because complex measures are taken to improve customs controls, enhance financial discipline, strengthen the fight against smuggling and suchlike irregularities,” he added.
He also said that the budget projections for 2009 have been increased by AZN 145 million for VAT, AZN 36.2 million for customs duties, AZN 8 million for excise tax and AZN 0.8 million for road tax.
On the occasion of the Customs Day, the central staff of the Committee visited Honor Alley and Martyrs Avenue.
