Paramount Group acquires 30% stake in EMCOM Wireless

Baku â€“ APA. Africaâ€™s largest privately held defence company Paramount Group has just acquired a 30% stake in South African communications company Emcom Wireless Ltd, it was announced today.
The investment will allow Paramount Group to better meet the growing demands for flexible and inter-operable communications equipment that is coming from African countries involved in regional UN peacekeeping operations.
There are currently eight peacekeeping operations in Africa, the largest for any region in the world, and Africa accounts for the lionâ€™s share of the $7.6 billion UN peacekeeping budget. 33% of all peacekeepers are African and Sudan is now the UNâ€™s biggest peacekeeping operation.
Interoperability between various multi-national forces is regarded as a crucial mission critical component that affects the effectiveness of forces that often operate over large, sparsely populated areas such as the UN Missions in Darfur and the Western Sahara.
Paramount Group manufactures mine protected vehicles â€“ including the IED resistant 6 wheeled Mbombe which was recently launched in Johannesburg â€“ for African and other emerging economies. Emcom Wireless Ltd, founded in 1968, provides mission critical communications equipment to companies in the defence, policing, utilities, transport and energy sectors.
The partnership brings together two well established South African companies and draws on their relative strengths to target the peacekeeping vehicle market.
