Bakı - APA-Economics. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin earned 3.88 million rubles ($134,000) last year, beating out the country’s president, who only earned RUB3.3 million in 2009, according to data posted on government Web sites Monday, NASDAQ reported.

Putin, who in addition to his government position is also chairman of VEB, Russia’s development bank, owns three cars--all Russian-made--and a 1500 square meter home, the data showed.

Medvedev, who chaired state-owned Russian gas giant OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) before being selected as a presidential candidate by Putin in 2007, owns a classic GAZ 1948 Pobeda car, in addition to a 368 square meter apartment and keeps some RUB3.6 million in the bank.

The earnings of both were dwarfed by those of Natural Resources Minister Yury Trutnev, however, who declared RUB155 million in income for 2009, becoming the government’s top earner for the second year straight.

The declarations are a result of a decree signed by Medvedev last year requiring officials to declare their income and assets as well as those of their wives and children, presumably in an effort top crack down on bureaucrats hiding their personal fortunes by signing them over to family members.
