Azerbaijan’s GDP rises for 2.8 times in past six years

More than 33 000 new enterprises were opened and more than 840 000 jobs were created, poverty was reduced by 4.1 times and was 11 % in the past six years, said Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev at the event dedicated to the outcomes of first year of the State Program for socio-economic development of the regions of Azerbaijan in 2009-2013.

Regarding the macroeconomic indexes, Mustafayev said GDP rose 9.3%, per capita GDP – 7.9%, non-oil sector – 3.2%. All financial resources made 7.4 billion AZN, including 2.9 billion AZN in the regions for the development of social and economic spheres. It was spent for the projects carried out for improvement of infrastructure and making it in accordance with the world standards.

New gas pipelines were constructed to supply the regions in 2009. 63 villages have already been supplied. Water and sewerage projects are still carried out together with the international financial institutions. 80 postal offices and 74 phone stations were constructed in the regions.

Mustafayev said the National Fund for Owners Support allocated 48 million AZN to 32 private enterprises. 63 medical centers, including 44 in the regions, 87 school buildings were constructed and repaired in 2009. Foundation of seven Olympic centers, Baku Tennis Academy and Baku Gymnastics Complex were laid last year.
