Baku. Elnur Huseynguluyev – APA-Economics. The turnovers of Unibank Commercial Bank in the retail money transfer market reached AZN 25.5 mn in 2009 representing an increase by 27.5% from 2008.
There were 45,603 transfers without accounting opening channelled through the branches and outlets in Unibank last year; the USD equivalent of 5.26 mn of inbound transfers and 26.45 mn of outgoing transfers went through the transfer systems supported by the Bank. The average monthly turnovers and the related profits of Unibank rose by 67% and 1.6 times respectively.
‘Even though the money transfers’ ebb is falling in Azerbaijan, our turnovers in this segment of the banking service market almost doubled in two years past,’ comments Guney Ahundova, the Retail Business Development Manager with Unibank. She adds that the customers of the Bank can send and receive money in USD, EUR and RUR via the different money transfer systems supported by the Bank. ‘The classical transfer method that we offer is high in the customer demand because it is based on the modern technologies that ensure instant transfers. The retail customers make approximately 220 transfers without account opening through the service network of the Bank as the daily average. The tariffs that start at 1.2% are among the advantages of Unibank,’ Ms Ahundova continued.
When a customer sends or receives money via the systems supported by Unibank, they can get bonuses. For example, everybody sending or receiving $500/EUR500/RUR 20,000 during one day get the mobile telephone scratch-cards. This promo action works at all the 23 branches of Unibank including the provincial branches in Gyanja, Sumgait, Shamkir, Guba, Minghechavir and Sheki, as well as at the Gyanjlik.
Unibank works with the following seven international money transfer systems currently: Western Union (since 2000), Bistraya Pochta (since 2005), CONTACT (since 2006), Faster (since 2007), XPmoney (since 2007), Migom (since 2008) and LIDER (since 2009).
