Azerbaijan uncovers embezzlement of public funds in some regions of

As APAâ€™s Karabakh bureau reports, the ministry of finance states in its January 13, 2010 letter that there were serious violations in the use of the public funds allocated from the state budget in 2007-2008 for farmers.

According to the letter, there were instances of embezzlement and deviation from the intended purpose.

The document reads the peculations were done through violation of the government-set rules to deliver mineral fertilizers to farmers at a 50% discount, listing of farmers who didnâ€™t receive fertilizers or who didnâ€™t live there, artificial overstatement of the sown area etc.

It turned out in inspection that barley sown area were documented as wheat sown areas, non-existing areas were stated as wheat sown area and amendments were made to government-provided fuel and engine oil delivery volumes to farmers in order to embezzle public funds.

The document submitted to the government by the Ministry of Finance reads that similar violations were also discovered in Barda, Terter, Agjabedi, Beylagan, Imishli and Zardab.
