Azerbaijani customs services identify 3 005 violations of law last year

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. 3 005 cases of law violations were identified by the customs services of Azerbaijan in 2009, State Customs Committee told APA.

There were 162 criminal cases where AZN 688 686 smuggling goods and other things were confiscated and 160 people were brought to justice.

65 cases of drug trafficking were identified last year and 319 kg 907 g narcotic drugs were found as a result of operational measures. 81 people, including 15 women were detained for drug crimes. There were 39 Azerbaijani, 17 Iranian, 7 Pakistani, 6 Russian, 4 Uzbek, two Nigerian, two Turkish citizens, as well as one from each of Georgia, India, Lithuania and Cambodia.

13 organized groups, as well as six transnational organized groups of drug smugglers were rendered harmless in the period from May 8 to July 10, 2009 and more than 50 kg heroin were confiscated from the transnational groups.

596 legal entities, including 150 foreigners and 238 individuals were brought to justice with administrative charges for violation of customs rules.

The State Customs Committee’ Office for Prevention of Law Violations investigated 8 criminal and 8 administrative negligence cases.
