Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law banning the use of words associated with Russia and the USSR, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The law, known as the "decolonization law," prohibits assigning names to geographical objects linked to Russia and the Soviet Union.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had previously backed the law, and Zelensky signed it after it was forwarded to his desk.

The Ukrainian government recently expanded its efforts to fight not only Soviet history but also everything connected with Russia, a move described by Russian officials as de-Russification and forced assimilation.
