European Georgia, an opposition political party in Georgia, accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of interfering in the electoral process in the country’s Marneuli district, densely populated by Azerbaijanis.
Electoral polling stations for local government elections opened in Georgia on Saturday morning. Georgians will elect 64 mayors of cities and districts and deputies of 64 municipal legislatures (sakrebulo).
Ahmad Imamguliyev, a candidate from European Georgia party for Marneuli district, claimed that representatives from the ruling Georgian Dream party put pressure on voters in several polling stations, APA's Georgia bureau reported.
In turn, Temur Abazov, a candidate from Georgian Dream for Marneuli, dismissed the accusations of the opposition party ‘groundless’.
“The goal of the ruling party is to ensure that the elections to be held in democratic conditions,” he added.
