Baku-APA. Turkish authorities have arrested 36 police officers suspected of illegal wiretapping of the ex-leader of the main opposition Republican people’s party Deniz Baykal, APA reportrs quoting Hurriyet.
D. Baykal announced his resignation as party leader in may 2010. The reason for this was the placement on the Internet of a video showing him in bed with the representative of his party Mersin Baytok. The footage was shot with a hidden camera.
It is reported that the suspects are supporters of the opposition Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom Ankara accuses of organizing the coup attempt. Only in the case of illegal wiretapping of lake Baikal and other functionaries of the opposition party — the nationalist Party national movement — issued a warrant for the arrest of 120 people.
