Today, meeting of Defence and Security Committee under the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s spring session was held in Tbilisi, Georgia.

APA’s Georgian bureau reports that Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria said Georgian Armed Forces are ready to ensure security in Afghanistan jointly with NATO forces.

Azerbaijani MP Siyavush Novruzov told L. Izoria that the experience of Georgian Armed Forces is important for Azerbaijan. The minister said in response that Georgian Armed Forces play significant role in guarding the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Supsa pipelines, as well as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.

Novruzov spoke about danger of Russia-Georgia war in 2008 to international pipelines passing through the territory of Georgia and said ASALA plans to commit terror acts. Regarding Novruzov’s question about modernization of Georgian Armed Forces, Izoria said Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners: “Azerbaijani Defence Minister visited Georgia in the recent days. We held bilateral and trilateral meetings, which included Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish Defence Ministers. We discussed issues of defence, security and strengthening of armed forces, as well as security in the South Caucasus”.

The minister said Azerbaijani MP is right and security in the South Caucasus should be ensured: “We are trying to ensure the security in South Caucasus jointly with NATO member Turkey and Azerbaijan”.
