Georgia’s Interior Ministry has issued a statement on an armed attack on Jeyhun Chovdarov, a candidate from the ruling Georgian Dream party for municipality membership in Gizilhajili village of Marneuli district, and three other persons who were with him.
“Late at night, on October 19, unknown persons wounded four people with a firearm in vicinities of the election headquarters of the Georgian Dream political party, located in Gizilhajili village, Marneuli,” said the statement.
“The wounded persons have been transported to the hospital by the ambulance crew. Their lives are not in danger,” according to the statement.
In connection with the mentioned, the Interior Ministry Affairs launched investigation on the fact of intentional infliction of grave injury, article 117 of the Criminal Code.
Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili arrived in the region soon after the incident and got familiarized with the details of the ongoing investigation and health condition of the wounded persons.
Health Minister David Sergeenko, who visited the hospital last night, said that one more person was wounded during the incident, APA’s Georgia bureau reported.
At present, forensic experts are continuing investigative measures.
