The European states will not recognize the independence of Catalonia, President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani said in an interview with Kore radio station.
According to him, the Catalonia crisis is an internal affair of the kingdom. “Europe supports the solution of this issue in the context of mutual dialogue. It is important to make a decision within the laws and constitution of Spain. It would be better for Catalonia not to announce its independence because no European country will recognize its independence,” he said.
Puigdemont declared on October 10 an independent Catalan republic following the disputed referendum on October 1. Spain will trigger Article 155 of its constitution on Saturday, allowing the suspension of Catalonia's political autonomy.
