'Very inappropriate': Zelenskyy criticizes former Ukrainian army chief over comments on security raid

# 23 February 2026 20:09 (UTC +04:00)

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that it was "very inappropriate" for the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, to reveal internal conflict that occurred in 2022, the head of the Ukrainian state said in interview with AFP, APA reports.

"Probably we all had the same emotion — whether it is too early for all this. I simply believe that today, discussing details that Valerii Fedorovych (Zaluzhnyi — ed.) spoke about is also very inappropriate. Because nobody will benefit from this. After all, this is about our army, which is fighting today. And he will not, so to speak, look good if he talks about this," Zelenskyy believes.

According to the president, he has not communicated with Zaluzhnyi after his high-profile interview. Now focus should be on other things, not on elections.

"And who said that I will definitely run in elections? Nobody said that I would run, and nobody said that I would not run, because war is ongoing. We must finish it with dignity. People will definitely react to everything and to everyone, judging by who lives how, who lived this time how, who was where, and who did what. In my opinion, this is the whole answer," he added.

At the same time, Zelenskyy added that he does not know whether Zaluzhnyi can become a good president of Ukraine.
