US intelligence officials said that the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) “accused” the Russian Defense Ministry of “concealing Russian losses in Ukraine,” APA reports citing New York Times.
According to the FSB, the Ministry of Defense does not take into account in its reports the losses among the fighters of the National Guard, mercenaries of PMC Wagner and the military sent to Ukraine from Chechnya, New York Times says.
According to US intelligence, this information shows the reluctance of the military “to pass bad news along the chain of command,” says the source.
The FSB believes that the real number of those killed and wounded by Russia in Ukraine is about 110 thousand people, according to the Times.
Note that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation last publicly reported losses on September 21, 2022, the day the mobilization was announced. Then the department claimed that 5937 Russian servicemen were killed in Ukraine.
