The Ukrainian military stated that it retains control of Bakhmut, APA reports citing AFP.
The news comes just after Russia's Wagner group claimed it had seized the town by occupying its administrative building.
"Legally, Bakhmut has been taken. The enemy is concentrated in the western areas," Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin said in an earlier message on Telegram.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation in the city as "particularly hot."
