Ukraine will open humanitarian corridors in Kursk region for civilian evacuation - Deputy Minister says

Ukraine plans to open humanitarian corridors in Kursk region for the evacuation of civilians, both towards Russia and into Ukrainian territory, this was announced by Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukranian Deputy Prime Minister, APA reports citing TCH.

Vereshchuk announced that, to protect Ukraine's border regions (primarily Sumy), the Defense Forces are establishing a security zone on Russian territory adjacent to the Ukrainian borders.

"Civilians in this zone are under the protection of international humanitarian law, which Ukraine fully adheres to," e the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.

She further stated that Ukrainian military forces intended to conduct humanitarian operations to support civilians within this security zone.

Additionally, plans include opening humanitarian corridors for civilian evacuation - both towards Russia and towards Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces will allow international humanitarian organizations access to the security zone for humanitarian response and monitoring of the humanitarian situation.

Vereshchuk mentions that preparations and consultations are currently underway.
