Tusk: Collapse of the USSR is a positive change for Russia itself

“I want to say loudly and clearly that the collapse of the USSR was a great and positive event for Central and Eastern Europe countries”, told Donald Tusk, the President of the European Union Council in the first Investment Forum held on the occasion of 10th anniversary of “Eastern Partnership” in Batumi, Georgia, APA’s local bureau reports.

He stated that the expansion of the European Union contributed great results for the region.

“It is proud to participate in this event. It is a very significant event of European history. We celebrate the 15th anniversary of European Union expansion in 2019. It has led to great consequences for my country – Poland too. We also celebrate the collapse of the USSR current year. In 2005 the president of Russia said that the collapse of the USSR was a big mistake. I want to say loudly and clearly that it was a very great and positive change for Poland, Georgia, Central and Eastern European countries, and Russia itself”, emphasized Mr. Tusk.

He noted significant energy and transit projects, supported by the European Union, had been carried out in the region, and he would review new opportunities in order to expand collaboration relations.
