Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on Monday that he had had a "good" telephone conversation with Donald Trump, the first between the two leaders since the American politician won the US presidential election, in which they discussed issues such as Ukraine, security, defense and cooperation, APA reports citing EFE.
"I had a good conversation with Donald Trump. Sweden and the United States have been close partners for a long time," Kristersson said, according to Swedish news agency TT, which said the call lasted 20 minutes and focused on "cooperation within NATO" and "common security interests."
"We discussed Russia's war against Ukraine, and I stressed in particular that support for Ukraine is important both for Sweden's security and for transatlantic security," Kristersson wrote in response to TT.
"We also discussed economic cooperation between Sweden and the United States in trade and technology. Sweden is the tenth largest investor in the United States," said the Swedish Prime Minister, who said he wanted to continue the "collaboration" and deepen ties between the two countries.
Kristersson also reported on his X social media account, stressing that “America is a nation of builders and manufacturers, just like Sweden.”
"Our friendship dates back to 1783, when Sweden was one of the first countries to recognize the United States as a sovereign nation," the Swede stressed.
