Russia has banned airplanes registered in the United Kingdom from entering its airspace and landing on its territory, the country's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) confirmed on Friday, APA reports citingTeletrader.
The move comes after the United Kingdom announced a new set of sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, including banning Aeroflot – Russian Airlines from landing in Britain.
Before formally announcing the decision, Rosaviatsiya noted the UK thus breached the agreement the two countries signed earlier. It also warned that "on February 25, 2022," only "UK airlines in the airspace of Russia are scheduled to operate 70 transit flights and two flights on the London-Moscow route."
